This Event
On October 29, 2025, ZEBx hosted its eleventh Tech Demo workshop at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)’s renowned High-Performance Building Lab in Burnaby. This event, attended by HVAC contractors, engineers, developers and many others from the building industry, focused on one of the newest advancements in climate-friendly building technology: the Hisense Hi-Comfort product line that uses a dual-purpose heat pump to heat and cool a home and provide hot water at the same time.
As energy efficiency and carbon pollution become standard considerations for new and existing buildings, the supply chain is responding with new and innovative products that make energy-efficient and climate-friendly buildings more achievable than ever. After a big splash in the US market, Hisense recently introduced this product line to the Canadian market.
This model can simultaneously produce domestic hot water (with a Hisense 227 L hybrid electric hot water tank) while heating or cooling a house or condo. It can extract heat out of -25°C air, negating the need for any supplemental heating in the warmer climate zones of BC. The unit has a 100% heating capacity at -15°C with a maximum CoP of 2.5. It has a SEER2 rating of up to 23 and a HSPF2 rating of 11 (higher when in heat recovery mode).
This Tech Demo was presented in partnership with the Mechanical Contractors Association of BC (MCABC) and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)’s Zero Energy & Emissions Buildings (ZEB) Learning Centre. Many thanks to Hisense and the heat pump distributor, Hudson Sales, for collaborating.
