Past Event: September 19, 2018 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
On September 19, ZEBx in partnership with Passive House Canada and the City of Vancouver, will host a social dialogue to explore the successes, barriers and solutions of building Vancouver’s first two multi-unit residential Passive House buildings – The Brixton Flats and The Heights.
Conceptualized by different designers, these buildings boast their own unique approach to building to the same Passive House standards. With members from both project teams present, event guests will engage in industry-leading discussions focused on the design and build phases, along with the roadblocks and project-specific solutions each team addressed.
Join us at this upscale, catered event to learn from the leaders of Passive House buildings and progress local projects towards high-performance.

Brixton Flats embodies an immersive urban lifestyle rooted in minimizing environmental impact. Built to Passive House standards, the design team was successful in including significant heat recovery and noise reduction systems throughout the building. These include heat recovery ventilators that reduce space heating requirements by more than 90%, and design applications that prevent over-heating in summer months due to solar gain and global climate change. Details in the building’s envelope allow for a significant reduction in outside noise, allowing for a more livable and comfortable indoor environment.
The Heights’ unique Passive House construction methods offers residents healthy, allergy free, energy efficient and quiet residential units. The design team’s experienced application of Passive House standards allowed for an expert combination of triple glaze tilt and turn windows, high comfort air, heat and energy recovery air circulation systems, and high-performance energy systems resulting in an 80% heating cost reduction.
